Excess Pressure Valve

    pressure
  • coerce: to cause to do through pressure or necessity, by physical, moral or intellectual means :"She forced him to take a job in the city"; "He squeezed her for information"

  • the force applied to a unit area of surface; measured in pascals (SI unit) or in dynes (cgs unit); "the compressed gas exerts an increased pressure"

  • a force that compels; "the public brought pressure to bear on the government"

  • The force exerted per unit area

  • The use of persuasion, influence, or intimidation to make someone do something

  • The continuous physical force exerted on or against an object by something in contact with it

    excess
  • The amount by which one quantity or number exceeds another

  • immoderation as a consequence of going beyond sufficient or permitted limits

  • Lack of moderation in an activity, esp. eating or drinking

  • more than is needed, desired, or required; "trying to lose excess weight"; "found some extra change lying on the dresser"; "yet another book on heraldry might be thought redundant"; "skills made redundant by technological advance"; "sleeping in the spare room"; "supernumerary ornamentation"; "it

  • An amount of something that is more than necessary, permitted, or desirable

  • a quantity much larger than is needed

    valve
  • a structure in a hollow organ (like the heart) with a flap to insure one-way flow of fluid through it

  • control consisting of a mechanical device for controlling the flow of a fluid

  • A device for controlling the passage of fluid through a pipe or duct, esp. an automatic device allowing movement in one direction only

  • A membranous fold in a hollow organ or tubular structure, such as a blood vessel or the digestive tract, that maintains the flow of the contents in one direction by closing in response to any pressure from reverse flow

  • device in a brass wind instrument for varying the length of the air column to alter the pitch of a tone

  • A cylindrical mechanism in a brass instrument that, when depressed or turned, admits air into different sections of tubing and so extends the range of available notes

Pressure optimizer for air brake system

(This system possesses a valve with a stop-cock. Brake creation involves mixture of two components - air and water. When pressure is increased, temperature also increases. So, the 2 components are converted into 3 components - AIR, WATER and STEAM each of which has a varying pressure. These creates an enormous pressure inside the brake cylinder. The excess pressure is released by this valve (balloon) provided with an automated stop-cock. This valve releases excess pressure voluntarily as and when required.)

Top of Boiler

Top of Boiler

Behind the bell are three distinct “humps.” The first is the steam dome that collects steam fed to the steam chests, and operates the whistle mounted on top. The second is a sand dome that feeds sand to the driving wheels. The third is a steam dome equipped with a safety valve that prevents excess steam pressure from building up in the boiler.
